Final reflection

Observacin y Prctica de la Enseanza II

Considering my goals I set for myself for this year, I can say that most of them could be
achieved. One of them was related to learning how to plan varied, meaningful and
engaging activities that catered for all the students in my class and that was something I
learned and could improve through reading and practicing. Also, learning to take
advantage of misbehavior as an instance to instill attitudes and values to my students
and to acquire discipline techniques to keep all students focused on either a task or the
presentation of a new topic were two aspects I consider I could improve throughout the
year but I think I still need to work on them.
With reference to my weaknesses associated to class-management as a result of students
misbehavior, I was given the tools to keep students focused and engaged in class
despite disruptive behavior. Moreover, having the opportunity to teach children was a
valuable and fruitful experience to me. I learned a lot about the planning of varied and
meaningful activities due to kidsshort attention spans and I also learned a lot about
myself, that is, the things I am willing to do for my students, how patient and creative I
can be and so on. Last but not least, my experience teaching at Arquitecture School was
also very fruitful since I had the opportunity to teach in a totally new context and way
(in teams). I feel I could imporve my use of the board as a means of refreshing concepts
and giving examples and also my use of questions to guide students to the right answer.
In relation to my perceived strengths, I confirm what I stated at the beginning of the
year, they are related to voice projection and class management. That is, making sure
that everyone participates and feels comfortable doing so (verbal praise). Also, making
sure that all students know and understand what we are doing (for instance, by
approaching late comers and including them). As I said before, I know there are still
many aspects I need to polish up but ,as Julio Caesar once said, Experience is the
teacher of all things.
