Hogarth Arrangement

October 30th 2015

Hannah Forrey pd.6

Purpose of the Arrangement:

The purpose of this arrangement was to learn how to properly make a Hogarth
arrangement. The arrangement makes a sort of S shape, long and curved. It is
long because two sides of it are extended and then curved, thus creating the S
shape. The colors used in this arrangement include; green, purple, orange, peach,
yellow, and a small amount of white. There was no specific theme but the it is very
long and elaborate looking.
Materials List:
1 design bowl
piece of floral foam
2 stems of leather
2 stems of bells of Ireland
2 stems f solidaster
1 stem of spiral eucalyptus
3 stems of standard carnations
1 stem of mini carnations
2-3 stems of wax flower
floral shears
Steps to Create Arrangement:
1. Create a greenery collar around the base of your design bowl
2. add the bells of Ireland on either side of the arrangement, this
creates a long vertical line in an S shape
3. add the carnations into the middle of the form, still aligned with the
bells of Ireland so the vertical line travels throughout
4. place the mini carnations around the regular carnations, to make it
look fuller
5. place a couple strands of eucalyptus evenly and not overpowering,
throughout the top of the floral foam

6. Fill in all of the gaps around the carnations and eucalyptus with the
wax flowers and solidaster
Standards Addressed in this assignment:
The standards addressed in this assignment include, the basic shape of a hogarth
arrangement, vertical shape, dynamic lines, and balance. The vertical shape
represents how long the arrangement is due to to bells of Ireland sticking out. The
dynamic lines also show the bells of Ireland because they are in a flowing motion
(S). And the balance is how evenly proportioned each side is.
Critique:
I think this is my best arrangement yet, but if I were to change something about
how I completed it I would make my bells of Ireland flow more into an S shape by
twisting the to curve on opposite sides. Also, when beginning the arrangement I
need to make sure my greenery collar is short.
Summary:
The basic skills we learned in this arrangement is again, mostly lines and balance.
We also learned how to make the arrangement lay out in a way so that the focal
point isnt really set out or taller than anything else, just the center of it all. Also,
an important factor was the dynamic lines and how it showed the flowers flowing in
two

directions. This was important

to

floral design because it

demonstrated the elements of

line,

balance, multiple use of colors

and

shapes, and a new arrangement

type!
