Advancement of the Profession

Ideally I would love to have been able to put my BSN diploma in this section.

For me personally this achievement of a bachelor's degree in nursing is an

advancement of my profession. For now I will just have to wait until May for that. I

believe I have advanced my profession by testing and receiving my certification

(CNOR) seventeen years ago and keeping it current. My membership in the

Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) helps to advance the

profession as well. I am able to share the knowledge I have through this

certification and from AORN's professional journal with my colleagues. Sharing best

practices and research can improve patient care. My hope is that I can become

more involved in this organization when school is done. Another way that I

indirectly advance my career is by volunteering within my community. For the last

seven years I have volunteered with a local ski patrol providing first responder care

for the public at a local ski resort. Placing myself out in the community and giving

back is another way to advance the profession of nursing.
