1. IXL Math | Online math practice. (n.d.). Retrieved September 28, 2015, from
https://www.ixl.com/math/
IXL Math is intended to help students practice problems to increase their math skills.
Students could use this website to get a little bit of extra help on any subject and/or topic
they are struggling in, especially if maybe they are not understanding the way the teacher
is approaching the material. Teachers could use this website to pull practice problems and
to find different ways to explain particular topics. The website does not contain any
advertisements that I can see, but the company that owns/runs the website does have
educational books and other products being sold. There are a lot of people working for
IXL to put together this website. Besides the web design team there are experienced
tutors, teachers and even PhDs working on making sure there are good quality problems
on the webpage. Once you choose a topic you want to learn about you start answering
questions based on that topic. If you get it right you move onto the next problem, but if
you get it wrong it tells you the right answer and explains why. IXL last updated the
webpage in 2015, and is constantly being added to. There are lots of topics covered on
the webpage that all work to what I can see. The material coverage is Pre-K to PreCalculus with all the TEKS having attached practice problems with explanations. I am
most likely going to be using this website when I start teaching.
2. Math Play - Free Online Math Games. (n.d.). Retrieved September 28, 2015, from
http://www.math-play.com/index.html
Math Play can be used in any classroom from first grade to high school geometry. Due to
the increase of technology in the classroom this website could be used by either the
student or the teacher. Students could use this website to review material for a test just to
get some extra practice. Teachers could use the games on this website to have a warm-up
to get the students brains thinking because a lot of the games are timed. Since some of
the games are timed the teacher could also make it a competition to see who can get the
best time or score. The website includes an advertisement for IXL Math, which is the
website above, but there are no known products trying to be sold. The website was
created by Doina Popovici who is an experienced math teacher who has created

numerous educational games, websites and videos. Once you choose the grade level or
class you pick a topic from that class then choose any game that is under that topic. The
website is easy to use and can definitely test how fast you can think! It does not say when
the last time this website was updated, but from what I can see it is staying pretty current
with what is being taught in each grade or class. All the links and games that I clicked on
work just fine without any extra software or anything. I will probably use this website in
my classroom as a short warm-up to get the students to think on their toes.
3. Virtual Manipulatives. (n.d.). Retrieved September 28, 2015, from
http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/mathematics/ebook_assets/vmf/VMFInterface.html
Virtual Manipulatives can be used for many things in a math classroom. It has
manipulatives for Pre-K through 8th grade. While playing around with some of the 8th
grade manipulative I found you can even use some of it in high school algebra and
geometry. This can be used by both teachers and students. Teachers can use it to help
teach a lesson on a very wide variety of math topics and students can use it for visuals to
help them practice or even do homework. There is no advertisements on this website
even though it is from Glencoe, which is a K-12 textbook company. All you have to do is
select the grade level, if you want some sort of grid, and the manipulative that you want.
This website is very easy to use and can be very helpful for those students who are strong
visual learners. I cannot find when the website was created or last updated, but it is very
modern day and up to date with a lot of different choices for manipulatives. There is no
extra software needed and all the links and such work just as they should. I am definitely
going to be using this website if I ever teach High School Geometry, because it has a
protractor that automatically tells you the angle which can be used for all different
measurements including rotations.
4. Math. (n.d.). Retrieved September 30, 2015, from https://www.khanacademy.org/math
Khan Academy is intended for math students needing extra help outside of the classroom.
This website is very useful when it comes to students trying to study. Khan Academy has
videos, notes, lessons, and problems from 3rd grade to 8th grade and from early math to
calculus and beyond. Students can use this website as a study tool especially when they
get stuck on their homework and need to figure out how to continue on their homework.
Teachers can also use this website to pull problems and ideas for practice for the class
and even test to see where their students are on the material. Khan Academy has every
student start out with a practice test to see where they are struggling with and it even has
a I havent learned this yet button when going through the practice test and practice
problems. There are no advertisements on this webpage, and they are not trying to sell
anything in plain sight. There is no extra software or anything needed and all the links
seem to work just fine. All it takes to get started is to sign up with your email and your
students can be practicing math today. I will definitely be sending my students to this
website if they get stuck on their homework or if they just need some extra practice to
grasp the concept we are covering in math.

5. Create Custom Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Calculus worksheets.

(n.d.). Retrieved September 30, 2015, from https://www.kutasoftware.com/
Kuta is a website intended for teachers needing worksheets, quizzes, and/or tests in a
hurry. Kuta has pre-made worksheets for almost every topic in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1
and 2, Geometry, and even Calculus. Kuta also has where you can make a randomized
quiz or worksheet over a topic. This website is a good tool for teachers who need some
extra worksheets or practice problems to go over in class to help the students understand
the material. There are no advertisements and everything on the website is completely
free, so it is purely for the benefit of the teachers and students. All you have to do is
choose a class and topic to get to the free worksheet with an attached key. I may or may
not use this website in my future classroom. I guess it really just depends on how
desperate I am to come up with some practice problems for the students.
