CNC Waterjet Cutting

Waterjet cutting is a computerized cutting
process using a stream of pressurized
water passing through a tiny

In some cases the stream is assisted by abrasive

material. This method is known as abrasive waterjet
cutting. The abrasive stream is much more powerful than
pure waterjet and is used to cut hard materials, such as
metals.
Waterjet cutting can create thin details and almost any
shape. As there is no heat generated during waterjet
cutting, the part being cut does not undergo distortion.
High cutting accuracy is achieved without leaving any
frayed edges or burrs. Therefore, edge quality is good
and the need for secondary finishing processes is
usually

Waterjet cutting has several advantages over other twodimensional cutting methods:
Cuts almost any material
Cuts complex patterns without tooling
Cuts without edge burrs
Generates no heat so the material edge is unaffected
Cuts a sandwich of different materials
Cuts materials as thin as .001"
Cuts materials up to 4" thick
Yields no poisonous gas when cutting plastics or rubber

Waterjet Sample Part

A waterjet cutting system includes a

computer system to control the nozzle
direction and speed, a high-pressure
water pump, and an X-Y Table to move the
nozzle, and the abrasive jet nozzle to
deliver the high-pressure stream.

Waterjet Types
Pure waterjet cutting: Pure waterjet cutting is
used to cut softer material for example
cardboard, corrugated board, leather,
textiles, cellulose and fibre plastics.
Abrasive waterjet cutting: Abrasive waterjet
cutting is used for cutting harder materials such
as Metals, Glass, Stone, Tiles, Ceramics, highStrength and difficult to cut alloys, Composite
materials and Organic materials.
Waterjet cutting is used in almost every industry.
