Juanita Parry
Director, Nurse Recruitment & Retention
University of Michigan Health System
2301 Commonwealth Blvd.
Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Dear Ms. Parry:
I am writing to state my sincere interest in the Adult Emergency Services Graduate Nurse Internship.
I will be graduating from the six-semester BSN program at California State University, Stanislaus
this December. I believe my educational background, work experiences, and passion for the
profession of nursing will greatly benefit your multidisciplinary team.
I am enthusiastic about this particular position because I feel it is compatible with my educational
and employment experiences. During my attendance of the 67th annual National Student Nurses
Association Convention, I was introduced to an externship opportunity that I now consider
instrumental to my development as a nurse. My acceptance to the Mayo Clinic Summer III
Externship in Rochester, Minnesota provided valuable insight to the expectations of a registered
nurse, while exposing me to innumerable ailments and courses of treatment. Throughout my time in
Rochester, I learned the importance of applying high quality, family-centered patient care, while
keeping the best interest of the patient in mind at all times. Please see the detailed evaluation of my
endeavors at the Mayo Clinic, as well as other nursing related activities, service learning, community
outreach, and letters of recommendation in my online portfolio at nursecardinal.tumblr.com.
To enhance my sense of cultural awareness and health care diversity, I studied abroad in Cuenca,
Ecuador. This humbling experience forever changed the way I view health care. I now understand the
obstacles non-American citizens face when seeking care in the United States. I recently completed
200 clinical hours in Memorial Medical Centers Emergency Department, where I fell in love with
the fast paced and exciting work environment. Working alongside their highly intuitive care team
enhanced my knowledge and desire to learn. I understand that quality patient care requires a solid
foundation in nursing practice, prioritization, and communication skills; all of which I have
developed throughout my clinical, extern, and extracurricular experiences.
As a new graduate in pursuit of a career in a positive work and learning environment, I would be
honored to work for the nationally ranked, University of Michigan Health Systems Emergency
Department. I look forward to discussing career opportunities with you in the near future. Please feel
free to contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Alyssa Cardinal
