Instructions For Use: Students will

write the definition, a real world
use, other related words, and draw
a picture to go with it.

Vocabulary Beach Ball


Intended Grade Levels:
Elementary
Instruction for Use: The teacher
will write current vocabulary
words on a beach ball. The
students will pass it around, and
whatever word their right thumb
lands on they have to act it out
for the class.
Strengths and Benefits: The
students get to learn vocabulary
words in a fun way which can be
used to help them remember
what the words mean.

Vocab on the Move


Intended Grade Levels: 3 rd grade and up
Instruction for Use: The students each
get a headband with a vocabulary word
on it. They cannot see the word and they
have to go around the room and ask
questions to other students to figure out
what the word is on their head.
Strengths and Benefits: This activity
causes students to use context clues like
synonyms, antonyms, and examples to
help them discover and remember what
the word is and what it means.

Foldables

Intended Grade Levels: 3 rd grade

Instruction for Use: Students create
a foldable with the word, definition,
picture, and the word in a sentence
to maximize learning in the
classroom.

are great tools for studying new
words and making connections to
what they mean.

Swat the Vocab

Intended Grade Levels: 2 nd grade


and up
Instruction for Use: The teacher
places vocabulary words on the
board and divides the class into
teams. Each team sends one
student to the front. The teacher
then reads the definition out loud
and whoever swats the word first
gets a point for their team.
Strengths and Benefits: This
activity is a great review. It can be
used before a vocabulary quiz to
help sink
