THE ORIGIN
La castanyada is the most important local festival in
Autumm.
It's on 31st of October, the same day as Halloween.
This celebration isnt new, it is very ancient. It has
its origins in Tots els Martiris in the year 835.
Long time ago, the festival was a dinner in honour for
the dead people. This party has survived throught the
years but the name was changed into la
Castanyada.

THE CELEBRATION

Nowadays, people who celebrate La Castanyada has a

dinner with the family or friends. Now, this celebration
has nothing to do with the dead people, its only to have
fun.

THE SYMBOL
La Castanyada, has a typical symbol. Its
called la Castanyera. This name comes from
an old woman who sold cooked chesnucks in
the street. This woman wears a shirt, a skirt
and a scarf in the head, but now the people
who sold cheasnucks wear a normal outfit .

THE SONGS
This celebration has also got songs. The
children in the primary school make a festival
to show to their parents how they sing or
dance the typcal songs. Also la Castanyada
has got typical histories.

The typical food in la Castanyada is: cooked
cheasnucks, sweet potatoes , panellets.
There are a lot of types of panellets: coconut
panellets, chocolate panellets, almond
panellets, pine nuts panellets, and more
