Week 6 Reflection
Mrs Latoya taught this lesson to the 4th and 5th graders of
Cleveland Elementary on November 3rd. All students were in class but
two on this day so it did not affect Latoyas lesson plan. The unit Mrs
Latoya focused on was track and more specifically field throws and
jumps. The equipment needed was 10 colorful poly spots and 20
plastic colorful plastic cones. The previously learned skills consisted of
balancing, aiming, team building skills, the ability to follow directions,
and communication.
The first systematic observation that I completed was SOFIT.
Latoya kept the kids active for a total of 660 seconds. Seeing that this
lesson was focused on track throwing and jumping events it is easy to
see why most of the lesson would not be considered MVPA just
because the kids arent actually moving and active. The implications of
my findings were that Latoya did a great job creating and executing
her lesson. I think that it is ok that her total MVPA was down because
of the type of lesson it was. One strategy Latoya could of implemented
to add some more minutes of MVPA to her lesson was to break the kids
up into more groups with smaller numbers. This would add more MVPA
to the lesson because the kids would get more reps on each event
leading to them being more active. One more strategy Latoya could of

used to better her lesson would be to use the space provided better. At
times it seemed like the lesson was bunched up and it took away from
the execution of the events from the students. By spreading out the
class the activities would of went a lot more smooth.
My second SO was feedback. When conducting this SO I found
that Latoya said guys many times. She also tended to ask the
students if they understood many times. This is good because Latoya
constantly was checking for understanding to ensure the kids were not
getting lost along the way. One strategy I would suggest Latoya to
implement would be to make sure she talks to students individually
when she deems fit. I noticed that she didnt take place in 1 on 1
feedback with any students when at times it was needed. Also, Latoya
could lower her voice when she addresses the students so they dont
get intimidated by here when she speaks,
