Assignment 1.

GIS VII Semester

28 September 2015

Work out the following raster analysis using MATLAB. Elevation and soil types of Trivandrum
district are given as raster files. New raster may be created with the image size and pixel size as
same as that of given files wherever required.
1. Find the area of Trivandrum which is of soil type 32 and with elevation range of 500
700m.
2. Create a new raster image with following elevation ranges and find the types of soil
available in each range of elevation.
<100m, 100 200m, 201 500m, 501 1000m and > 1000m
3. Derive the slope and aspect images of Trivandrum using elevation data
4. Location of Trivandrum airport is 76.921941E and 8.486408N. Derive the proximity
raster for the pixels of Trivandrum district (Pixel value is the distance from Airport to that
pixel location).
5. Create the buffer zones from the above raster from Airport for 5km, 10km and 15km.
6. Find the maximum elevation of these 3 buffer zones.
