My name is Robert and fishing is my favourite sport . I often fish for hours without catching
anything . But this does not worry me . Some fisherman are unlucky because instead of
catching fish , they catch old boots and rubbish . I am even less lucky . I never catch
anything not even old boots . After having spent whole mornings on the river , I always
go home with an empty bag . `You must give upfishing ! my friends say . It s a waste of
time but they dont realize one important thing . I m not really interested in fishing . I am
only interested in sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all .

US launches major Mosul assault (November 17 2004)
The US military in Iraq says it has begun a big assault on insurgents in the northern
city of Mosul.
One military spokesman said more than 1,000 soldiers were to be deployed.
Attacks on the Americans and their Iraqi allies flared in Mosul almost a week ago, when
several police stations were seized or destroyed by insurgents.
The US military said on Saturday it had diverted 500 troops to Mosul, Iraq's third largest
city, from the major operation to take control of Falluja.
Mosul is strategically important - close to the northern oilfields and near routes into Turkey
- and also ethnically very mixed.
Militants stormed more than six police stations last week killing dozens of people, in what
is believed to be a direct response to the Falluja operation.
US-led forces say they have now gained overall control in Falluja, trapping rebels in the
south of the city near the Great Mosque, although there are some groups of rebels who
are still fighting the Americans in the city centre using old-fashioned light artillery cannons
and Soviet machine guns.
16. What has just happened in Mosul?
a) Insurgents have begun a big fight against the Americans.
b) US Army has begun the attack against Iraqi resistance in Mosul.
c) Insurgents have surrendered to the Americans in northern Iraq.
d) A big assault on the US base in Mosul has just begun.
17. Why have the Americans deployed more than 1,000 soldiers?
a) because insurgents have tried to destroy several police stations.
b) because Iraqi allies have occupied the city of Mosul.
c) because the Americans have decided to seize the police stations occupied by the
insurgents.
d) because the insurgents started their attacks on the Americans last week.
18. Mosul is strategically important because:
a) it is the key to the northern oilfields of Iraq.
b) this city is close to the Turkish rebel frontline.
c) it is a major operation to take control of Falluja.
d) it is close to the Turkish border where many ethnically different groups are waiting
to launch an assault against the Americans.
19. The Falluja operation:
a) is going to begin in short.
b) has caused the death of dozens of people in Mosul.
c) didnt succeed because of heavy storms.
d) caused the response of Iraqi police against the militants.

BUT IS IT A CRIME ?
In a recent magazine article, some British teenagers aged 16-18 were asked
questions about crime .
All those interviewed agreed that some crimes, like murder and armed robbery,
were extremely serious and absolutely wrong. However, after that things werent so clearcut.
When it came to burglary, for example, 12% said it depended on who you were
stealing from. If it was from the people who lived next door, there was no argumemt it
was wrong.
As one 18-year-old boy commented, If it was from a big house belonging to rich
people, then it wouldn t really be wrong because everything would be paid for by their
insurance company .
With car crime, it was a similar story, 17% said that if they were walking
home late and someone had left their car unlocked, then it was OK to borrow the
car to get home as long as they did not steal the car to sell it.
