What is a Heart Murmur?


- It is the sound of blood flowing due to:
- blood passing through a heart valve that
has some issues
- a condition in the body that makes the
heart beat faster

Causes
-

Anemia
High blood pressure
Overactive thyroid
Fevers
Heart valve problems

Symptoms
-

enlarged liver
chest pains
chronic cough
sudden weight gain
bluish color on the skin; especially on the
fingertips & lips
- shortness of breath
- swelling

Statistics
- A heart murmur isnt a disease, although it
may indicate heart problems.
- Murmurs can be present at birth, or develop
later in life.
- 40-45% of children have heart murmurs.
- 10% of adults have heart murmurs.

More Statistics
- Hearts murmurs are extremely common.
- Holes in the septum that divides the atrium
or ventricles may cause a murmur.
- There are 0 reports of death caused by
heart murmurs, they only indicate other
conditions.

Treatments/cures
- Murmurs are harmless: They dont need any
type of treatment.
