Ret Mr. Roger D. Horton, teacher
To whom it may concern:
It has been my pleasure te work with Roger Horton as his Director of Instruction
(Principal) for the past tvo and a half years while he has been teaching Algebra,
Geometry, Physical Science, Blology, Chemistry, and Advanced Placement Blology.
Roger has secved as our Sclence Department Head for the past three years. In
addition, Reger has served as the advisor for Secondary 1V class, Head track and
fleld coach, assistant track and field coach, and assistant basketball and cross
country coach. Roger worked as a co-coordinator of our Field Excursion Week, taking
45 students on a week long in-country field trip, taking responsibility for
curriculum, transportation, food, and shelter. Beyond his classroom assionments,
Roger has also worked extensively with students Im tutorlal situations Doth on
school time and in his own personal lelsure time.
Without reservation, I recommend Roger for any secondary schoo! teaching position
for which he is academically quelified. I have been extremely pleased with his
continual contributions te the school’s Instructional academic program, seeing him
as the critical factor In making our secondary mathematles and sclence departments @
challenging place for students to thrive. Roger has volunteered to teach Advanced
Placement classes In Blology and Chemistry, although our students only fit the
Blology description. He has coordinated the AP curriculum with our outcome
mechanics, developed the testing materials, and found the instruetlonal tools needed
all on hls own with the support of the administration, but on his oun Initiative to
complete the project. Roger is outstanding In the classroom, showlng exceptional
control, ability to motlvate and an uncanny ability at establishing deep loyalties
amongst both students and parents. Many, many parents have shown a deep respect for
Roger’s classroom work, commenting that they are truly thankful that theic chilaren
have been in his class.
In addition, I have found Roger to be a collegial and well-respected member of the
professional staff. It is the norm that Roger and his family are involved In the
actlvltles of the school, both formal and Informal ag well as making tremendous
contributions to the community at large. I have personally appreciated Roger as @
confidante whe Is willing to give me his true opinion, especially when assured that
hls opinions are truly Sought and carry no negative repercussions. Roger“s:
experience has been an Invaluable asset to me in my administrative responsibilities.
Rager Is a highly energetic and hard-working teacher, taking on many
responsibilities beyond the classroom. He brings great credit upon the school in
the community. I recommend him te anv other school, although I wish I were able to
work with him either now or in the future.
