First job was helping government start school for Maasai students in TZ. We began with buildings, but without students, supplies or equipment. Things in TZ in the 80s didn't happen overnight, but as we took on projects ourselves, we realized the importance of perseverance.

Everyone who travels to distant places are often risk-takers
by nature. Our first job, working for the Lutheran Church to help the Tanzanian government start Sokoine Secondary School for Maasai students, certainly forced us out of our comfort zones.
We began with buildings, but without students,
supplies or equipment. Things in TZ in the 80s didnt happen overnight. We were forced to develop patience, but as we took on projects ourselves, (the picture of bunk beds Roger built for the student dorms is an example,) got to know the incredible students and culture, and started our own family, we realized the importance of perseverance and are proud to have left behind a school that still functions today.
