Had another meeting with my Client/SME. We discussed specific ideas for the content of the
instructional materials.
After evaluating the data from two semesters worth of library instruction sessions, one of the
areas that needed more attention is the process of evaluating information, more specifically how
and why to evaluate an authors credibility, the bias (and inherent motivations) of an author or
information provider and how all of this affects the research process.
We both agreed that we should try to make this research situation as real as possible, so we
came up with the scenario of buying a car.
Within this scenario, the student will be given a budget for a vehicle.
They will have a series of individuals (family member or friend, trusted mechanic, car
salesman) and resources (consumer reports, KBB, etc.) to choose from that will inform their
decision
After making a series of choices and ultimately deciding on a car to purchase, the learner will
see how/why they arrived at this purchase, i.e. if it was a good one or not and how/why the
information played a part in this process.
