1. List the tasks youve worked on this week.

Had another meeting with my Client/SME. We discussed specific ideas for the content of the
instructional materials.
After evaluating the data from two semesters worth of library instruction sessions, one of the
areas that needed more attention is the process of evaluating information, more specifically how
and why to evaluate an authors credibility, the bias (and inherent motivations) of an author or
information provider and how all of this affects the research process.
We both agreed that we should try to make this research situation as real as possible, so we
came up with the scenario of buying a car.
Within this scenario, the student will be given a budget for a vehicle.
They will have a series of individuals (family member or friend, trusted mechanic, car
salesman) and resources (consumer reports, KBB, etc.) to choose from that will inform their
decision
After making a series of choices and ultimately deciding on a car to purchase, the learner will
see how/why they arrived at this purchase, i.e. if it was a good one or not and how/why the
information played a part in this process.
2. Consider the progress you have made this week. Think about the concepts, issues, and
difficulties you have encountered as well as any decisions you made during the process. Mark

3. For each item you checked above, describe any difficulties or concerns you encountered, the
actions you took to deal with them, and your future plans in this particular area.
Related prior experience/Feelings/Teamwork Dynamic: I have over a decade of teaching
experience in a variety of settings, but none of that experience is specifically online/web-based.
Thankfully, my Client/SME has plenty of experience in both teaching AND Information
Technology (her PhD is in this field) AND Distance Education. I think the biggest issue for me at
this point is figuring out how to manage it. More specifically, the branching/Choose your own
Adventure setup lends itself to an infinite number of choices and paths. Realistically, I see this
project being the beginning of something larger and I hope to add to it after the semester.
Thankfully, my Client/SME is knowledgeable and very easy to work with.
