TRANSFORMATIONS

PROJECT
RACHELLE WALLACE

TEKS

EIGHTH GRADE:
(10)TWO-DIMENSIONAL SHAPES. THE STUDENT APPLIES
MATHEMATICAL PROCESS STANDARDS TO DEVELOP
TRANSFORMATIONAL GEOMETRY CONCEPTS. THE STUDENT IS
EXPECTED TO:
(A)GENERALIZE THE PROPERTIES OF ORIENTATION AND CONGRUENCE
OF ROTATIONS, REFLECTIONS, TRANSLATIONS, AND DILATIONS OF
TWO-DIMENSIONAL SHAPES ON A COORDINATE PLANE;

TRANSFORMATION
DEFINITION
Changing a shape using
Turn
Flip
Slide, or

Resize

EXAMPLE OF
TRANSFORMATIONS
This is an example of a turn (rotational) transformation:

On each link scroll down until you see Try It Yourself. Here you will be able
to interact with figures by transforming them.

TRANSLATION
Translation Moving a shape without rotating or flipping it.
The shape still looks exactly the same, just in a different
place.

EXAMPLE OF
TRANSLATION
This is an example of a translation:

LINK
Here is a link to show an interactive translated figure:

Once open choose Translation to apply it to a shape to
observe the resulting image.

REFLECTION
Reflection Flipping an object across a line without
changing its size or shape

EXAMPLE OF
REFLECTION
These are examples of a reflection:

LINK
Here is a link to show an interactive reflected figure:
https://illuminations.nctm.org/Activity.aspx?id=6475
Once open choose Reflection to apply it to a shape to
observe the resulting image.

ROTATION
Rotation Rotating an object about a fixed point without
changing its size or shape.

EXAMPLE OF
ROTATION
This is an example of rotation:
