facts
The London Eye is a giant
Ferris wheel on the South Bank of
the River Thames in London. Also known as the Millennium
Wheel. The entire structure is 135 metres tall and the wheel
has a diameter of 120 metres. When erected in 1999 it was
the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel. You can
see up to 40 kilometers in all directions. In December 2005
the London Eye was lit pink in celebration of the first CIVIL
partnership performed on the wheel.

4 cool facts
1.
The London Eye offers the best views over the city. As I said before, it is 135 meters tall, which allows its passengers to
admire the city about 25 miles away. For example, in a sunny day, with no clouds, you will be able to see the Windsor
Castle. This makes the London Eye one of the highest platforms in London, and also the tallest building in the city. You will
never forget the views you will see here!
2.
Every year, around three and a half million people, including tourists and London residents, go on the London Eye. It
means the London Eye receives more visitors than the Great Pyramids of Giza or the Taj Mahal in India. The giant wheel
can carry 800 passengers on every revolution. This is one of the facts about the London Eye that surprised me!
3.
The London Eye has 32 capsules around its wheel, one for each borough of London. A capsule weighs 10 tones, which
means the entire wheel weights 320 tones. Each capsule can carry 25 passengers, and I was really surprised that we are
able to walk around in the capsule; they are that big. Also, the capsules have air-condition, and comfortable sits.
4.
The 32 capsules of the London Eye are actually numbered from 1 to 33. I didnt understand at the beginning, but then, the
nice man at the entrance explained me that the number 13 is left out, for the good luck of the observation wheel. Quite
funny!
