Metallurgy

Product manufactured

Powder metallurgy product parts for

I)

air-conditioner and refrigerator compressors,

II)

complex components for the automobile,

motorcycle

III)

electrical appliance industries and etc

PM Processing flows

Mixing process

Using double cone type 1 ton mixer

Combine together iron powder and other
element and mixed very finely
Convert the mixed powder from
heterogeneous to homogenous
Lubricant are employed to reduce
friction and remove before sintering

Compacting

Compacting pressure depends on

characteristics and shapes, method of
mixing and lubricant use
The compact powder has near net finish
product

Sintering

The compacted powder are heated just

below the melting point, but sufficiently
high to allow bonding of the individual
particles.

Finishing treatment

To alter the properties of the product after sintering

Type of treatment involved

Heat treatment (alter its physical and mechanical

properties without changing the shape of the product

due to changes during the manufacturing process
involving high temperatures.
Steam treatment: to increased surface hardness,

attractive surface finish and , in the case of porous

materials such as powder metal , seal the part porosity
and increase the density .

Induction hardening: used to selectively harden

areas of a part or assembly without affecting the

properties of the part as a whole
Shot blasting: removing debris, paint and build up

from the surface.

Sizing: to assure the size of product is accurate

after sintering.
Machining; remove unwanted parts etc
Polishing; smoothing a workpieces surface using

an abrasive and a work wheel

Inspection

To control the quality of the product

The impact on conducting inspection such as

Reduces end-line defects
Saves time and efforts of final inspection
Helps to fix the problems at the outset, and prevents

common mistakes being made repeatedly

Helps to ensure quality of the products of a production

line

Finish product

After components ordered by the customer

to be completed according to the
specifications they want, the component
will be bundled and shipped directly to
them. Produced components will typically
be used in air conditioners, refrigerators,
compressors, automotive parts etc.

PM parts applications

Quality control

Quality control, or QC , is a process by which entities review the quality of

all factors involved in production. This approach places an emphasis on
three aspects
Elements such as controls, job management, defined and well managed

processes, performance and integrity criteria, and identification of

records
Competence, such as knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications
Soft elements, such as personnel, integrity, confidence,

organizational culture, motivation, team spirit, and quality relationships.

Discussion

The Powder Metallurgy Process is start by

mixing the ingredient together to make steel
Compacting is the step in which the blended
powder are pressed into various shapes in
dies to obtain required shape, density and
particle contact and make it strong for further
processing.
Sintering is the process whereby green
compact are heated in a controlled
atmosphere furnace

Conclusion

Pm in consisting a process of mixing,

compacting, sintering and finishing
Produce near net shape significantly
reduces or eliminate scrap
Reduce labour cost because most of the
operation are highly automated
Suitable for medium to high volume
production and relatively small parts.
