Create a QR Code Hunt

1. 4th Grade Science

2. Standard 3.1

Earth is part of the solar system, which includes the Sun, Moon, and other
bodies that orbit the Sun in predictable patterns that lead to observable paths
of objects in the sky as seen from Earth

Objectives
Students will be able to identify the components of the solar system
Students will be able to explain how the solar system is involved in the
changing of seasons
Students will be able to identify and explain eclipses

3. Lesson process
This lesson will consist of multiple parts and be very interactive for
students. Students will first be introduced to mobile learning and how
it works and how it will be used for this lesson. This will be the very
beginning of the solar system unit so students will have very little or no
prior knowledge on the topics. The students will then be split into
small groups of about 3-4. Each group will be given a scavenger hunt
sheet with clues to where to find the QR codes around the school and
each student will receive a question sheet. Each groups question
sheet will be in a different order so that all groups go to a different
place to begin. Students will complete the scavenger hunt for the QR
codes around the school and scan them and record their answers as
they go. When they are done the class will meet back in the classroom
to go over the answers and everybody will share their last fact that
they found on the website. Then we will go into a in depth lesson of
the solar system.
The sun, the nine planets, their moons, and
other objects that orbit the sun are called
_____.

The blocking of the sunlight by the moon as

the moon passes between the sun and the
earth is _____.

What is the center of our solar system?

What is the time it takes a planet to complete

one orbit?

The darkening of the moon as it passes

through Earth's shadow is _____.

What phase of the moon occurs when the dark

side faces the earth?

Why are the days shorter and colder in winter?

What two things cause the seasons on earth?

When a rock from space has passed through

the air and landed on the ground it is called
a(n) _____.

What is the name of a frozen chunk of ice and

dust that orbits the sun?

For this last question find the QR Code and

follow the link to the website. Once on the
website find one fact about the solar system
that you dont already know and write it down.
