MACBETH

MACBETH
Scottish general and the thane of Glamis.
Nervous about a prophecy made by 3 witches . Part of the
prophecy became true when he was made thane of Cawdor.
Brave soldier, and very powerful, but he does not follow the rules.
Very ambitious, but does not follow morals and makes bad
choices.
Not a great ruler. Seeks violence.
Hard for him to cope with the things he committed.

LADY MACBETH
Ruthless character (more ruthless than Macbeth).
Wants to kill Duncan.
Wishes she were a man so she can have more
power.
Manipulates situations.
Feels guilty, and eventually goes crazy and kills
herself.

1. Paraphrase Banquos opening soliloquy. What


does this speech reveal about his character?
2. Outline all the reasons Macbeth offers as to
why Banquo must be killed. What else does
Macbeths soliloquy reveal about his state of
mind.
3. How does the planning of Banquos murder
compare with that of Duncans murder? What
change in Macbeths character does this
emphasize.
4. Describe the relationship between the
Macbeths as revealed in this scene. Who
appears stronger and more in control?

Good King of Scotland.


Murdered by Macbeth.

THE THREE WITCHES

Understands the characters weaknesses and uses


them against them.
Accurate with their prophecies.
Very outlandish. (Ding, Ding, Ding!!!)

BANQUO

His ghost haunts Macbeth.


Witches say that his children will inherit the
throne.
Brave General.

MACDUFF

Scottish nobleman. Not a big fan of Macbeth at


the beginning.
Macbeth killed his wife and son.
Macduff starts crusade to kill Macbeth.

MALCOLM

Son of Duncan.
Becomes King after Macbeth. Another good King.
Appears weak at the beginning.
