1.

Birth of the Buddha


The first step is when the Buddhato-bes mother, Queen Maya, gives birth
to the Buddha-to-be. During this
moment, four Maha-Brahma angels
came with a golden net, and presented
the Buddha-to-be to the Queen.

2. The Victory Over the Demon Mara


The next step talks about the embodiment of violence and
uncontrolled passions, Mara. He approaches the Buddha-to-be to try to
stop the Buddhas enlightenment. The two question each others witnesses
of their donations. The Buddha-to-be then made the Earth thunder and
Maras followers fled.

3. The First Preaching


After the Buddha achieved
enlightenment, Buddha wished to
teach others the understanding he
had achieved. He addressed five
monks that he had once practiced
severe austerities.

4. The Miracles of Shravasti


The King of Shravasti heard rumors of a group of heretics were planning to
perform miracles. Buddha promised the king that he too could perform
miracles and would do so under a mango tree. The Buddha then discovers
that the heretics had destroyed the mango tree, and made another tree
grow to full size instantly.

5. The Descent from

went to heaven to preach to his
deceased mother and the other

inhabitants. When he was ready to


return to Earth, Indra and Brahma
honored him by attending him as
would high-ranking servants.

6. The Monkeys Offering


During the time the Buddha was residing in the Protected Forest, an
elephant provided him with water and wild fruits. After watching this, a
monkey decided to give the Buddha an offering. The monkey gave him a
branch of honeycomb. The Buddha accepted
the gift, but did not eat it. The monkey
discovered that tiny insect eggs were on the
honeycombs underside/ The monkey picked
off the eggs and the Buddha ate the
honeycomb. The monkey was so excited that
the branch he was on broke and he fell onto
a tree stump, impaling and killing him. The
Monkey was reborn in a place of paradise,
due to his faith in the Buddha.

7. The Taming of the


Enraged Elephant
Buddhas evil cousin sent an
enraged elephant to attack him.
The Buddha was able to calm the
elephant. This story can be said to
symbolize our need to subdue our
violent animal instincts.

8. Death
At the age of 80, the Buddha became ill. He laid on his deathbed between
two blossoming trees, surrounded by his disciples. He spoke his last works

and passed into Nirvana, for the Buddha had completed his reincarnation
cycle.
