EQUIPMENT: Music, Scarfs (8-16), Cones (12), Volleyball or Playground Ball (2), Hula Hoops (8)
OBJECTIVES:
To demonstrate locomotor tasks
To know the cures for correct throwing
To throw a ball using the overhand technique
To throw with velocity using side orientation and opposition
CALIFORNIA PE STANDARDS:
Introductory Activity: 1.4 Change direction from forward and back and right and left in
response to tempos, rhythms, and signals while walking, running, hopping, and
jumping (i.e., locomotors skills).

Fitness Activity: 1.6 Balance oneself, demonstrating momentary stillness, in symmetrical


and asymmetrical shapes using body parts other than both feet as a base of support.

Lesson Focus: 2.7 Explain that the non-throwing arm and hand provide balance and can
influence the direction a tossed object and a thrown object travel.

Game: 1.1 Demonstrate an awareness of personal space, general space, and boundaries
while moving in different directions and at high, medium, and low levels in space

PART 3: LESSON FOCUS (15-20 mins): Throwing Skills

Have students walk in the teaching area- When
the whistle blows go toe-to-toe with another
students.
Have one student raise their had from each groupsend them to station one, the other student will go
to station two
Station Format (2 stations)
Station 1. Activities emphasizing form.
a) Standing on a line- turn your body, with feet
apart, point, T, L, Throw.
Station 2. Both Feet in a hoop
a) Throwers begin in a side- facing position to the
target, with both feet inside the hoop; they then
step outside of the hoop with the foot opposite the
throwing arm and throw to the wall. Have them
throwing scarfs.

There will be 10 Hula Hoops. Divide students in a


line behind each Hula Hoop. Each student will
practice throwing the Scarf, retrieve the scarf and
hand it to the next student in their line.
* After 5 min- Have students switch stations.

PART 4: GAME ACTIVITY (5 mins): Game Activity

Charlie Over the Water
Supplies: A volleyball or playground ball.
Skills: Skipping, running, stopping, bowling
Place the class in circle formation. Two or more
children are placed in the center of the circle,
holding a ball. One of the center players is
designated as Charlie (or Sally) The class skips
around the circle in the following chant,
Charlie over the water,
Have a poster with the chant, until all students
Charlie over the sea,
learn the chant.
Charlie caught a bluebird,
But cant catch me!
On the word me, the center players toss their balls
in the air while the rest of the class runs and
scatters through out the area. When Charlie
reaches his ball, he shouts, Stop! All of the
children stop immediately and must not move
their feet. All of the center players roll their ball n Remind students how to roll a ball that they are
an attempt to hit one of their scattered classmates. not trying to hit a student with the ball.

If a ball is rolled into a scattered player, that child
becomes a new Charlie. If a center player misses,
they remain in the center, and the game is
repeated. If a center player misses twice, however
he picks another person to replace him.
