‘Week of March 9" and 11"
Challenges:
‘A challenge this week was watching one of my Kindergarteners get hurt while playing on the
playground, I knew that things happen but I didn't know how often my students would wet ur.
Fe was going on the monkey bars and he was jumping from the platform tothe second bar
instead of the first. He isa pretty active and coordinated boy so he had done it correctly multiple
times. On about his fourth or ffl try he lept from the platform tothe second bar and his
fingertips barely missed it. He was going so fast that his legs kept going forward and his whole
body went parallel tothe ground and he landed on his right arm. Immediately ater be fll I saw
him stay really till with his arm. [noticed a litle bulge on his wrist but then it went away, He
said “oh no [broke my arm” right after he fell This boy is kind ofa goofball and so I couldn't
tell iPhe was serious. Mrs, Weekes eame and we both bent over to look at him and help im sit
up. She had him try to squeeze her arm and he could do it but very gently. He erie a title and
then stopped crying and walked with the clas inside. He kept holding it to himself and Mrs.
‘Weekes said that his face was going pale. She took him to the office and his mom picked him up.
“Tums out that he fractured his wrist! Poor little uy! It was.a very good lesson for me though to
\vatch how Mrs, Weekes handled th situation, And [learned that should Be even more cautious
\with the children

Something | feared:
‘This week I leamed the importance of positive reinforcement and motivation. Mrs. Weekes has
started using a aro fil with marbles a a reinforcement tool. When students are good and
following directions the sa wil put une wanes inthe jae. When the students aro
misbehaving then she takes away marbles. [never thought that something so simple would be
this great of a motivator but itis! I have seen a difference inthe stents when they know that
there drn"Tany consequenses Tor Heir Getions and when there are. They know if they are going
