Secretary  General's  Message  

Please  allow  this  newsletter  to  serve  as  an  update  to  the  progress  
and  events  leading  up  to  our  30th  anniversary  seminar  of  the  
International  Society  for  Teacher  Education.    

ISFTE  2010   The  30th  anniversary  of  the  International  Society  for  Teacher  
Education  (ISfTE)  Seminar  is  coming  upon  us  very  shortly.  
Marta  Luz  Sisson  de  Castro  and  her  colleagues  have  been  
working  diligently  to  finalize  plans  for  our  arrival  in  April.  
 
Noted  scholars  will  highlight  the  Seminar  as  keynote  
speakers:  Sybil  Wilson  (Canada),  Robert  Verhine  (Brail),  Earl  
Shorris  (Brazil),  and  Anna  Hugo  (South  Africa).  We  look  
forward  to  being  inspired  by  their  insightful  scholarship  and  
challenges.  
 
Be  sure  to  come  and  celebrate!

ISfTE  Executive   Executive  Board  members,  remember  to  plan  your  arrival  so  
Board   that  you  can  attend  the  Executive  Board  meeting  on  Sunday,  
11  April  2010,  2:00-­5:00  pm.  
     
                 
 ISfTE  General   The  Society  traditionally  convenes  of  a  General  Business  
Business  Meeting   Meeting  for  the  membership  during  the  Seminar.  Information  
about  the  General  Business  Meeting  will  be  announced  onsite.  
 
New  ISfTE  Members   There  will  be  an  opportunity  for  new  members  of  ISfTE  to  be  
mentored  by  a  veteran  ISfTE  member  during  the  Seminar.  I  
am  encouraging  your  support  for  reaching  out  to  new  
emerging  scholars  as  they  consider  the  variety  of  leadership  
opportunities  within  the  Society.    
 
   
 

JISTE  Updates  
The  current  issue  of  JISTE,  vol  14(1),  is  available  and  accessible  to  ISfTE  members  
online.  
In  the  meanwhile,  Tonya  Huber-­‐Warring  (USA),  Guest  Editor,  is  preparing  vol.  
14(2).  This  is  a  theme  issue  on  Teacher  Education  and  Social  Justice.  Any  questions  
should  be  referred  to  Tonya  Huber-­‐Warring  thuber@stcloudstate.edu  .  
 

Other  Publications  forthcoming  

John  Hansen  (USA)  and  Marta  Luz  Sisson  de  Castro  (Brazil)  have  compiled  a  30th  
anniversary  commemorative  publication  entitled  Commemorating  Seminars  
Around  the  World  for  30  Years.  This  publication  will  be  available  at  the  30th  ISfTE  
Seminar  in  Brazil.  If  you  have  questions,  please  contact  John  Hansen  
(hansjo2@aol.com)  and/or  Marta  Luz  Sission  de  Castro.    

Also,  Warren  Halloway  (Australia)  (whallowa@une.edu.au)  and  John  Mauer  

(Australia)  have  a  publication  entitled  International  Research  in  Teacher  
Education:  Current  Perspectives  that  will  also  be  available  at  the  upcoming  
Seminar.  More  information  will  be  available  at  the  ISfTE  website  shortly.  
 

LeOra  Cordis  Trust  

The  LeOra  Cordis  Trust  Board  has  been  successful  in  securing  support  funding  for  
two  of  our  Developing  Nations’  scholars,  maintaining  the  spirit  of  providing  
opportunities  for  low  GDP  nations.  We  look  forward  to  the  continued  rich  exchange  
that  has  clearly  become  a  centerpiece  for  ISfTE  Seminars.

Distance  Paper  Groups  (DPG)  
Many  ISfTE  members  living  in  low-­‐GDP  countries  have  taken  the  opportunity  to  
submit  a  paper  to  an  annual  seminar  through  the  Distance  Paper  Group  (DPG)  over  
the  last  10  years.  With  the  generous  assistance  of  ISfTE  colleagues,  they  have  
received  written  comments  on  their  papers  and  subsequently  some  have  been  
published  in  JISTE.  In  this  way  our  members  in  developing  countries  have  been  able  
to  continue  their  scholarly  efforts  through  the  ISfTE  network.  Papers  have  been  
received  over  the  years  from  members  in  many  countries  including  South  Africa,  
Brazil,  Papua  New  Guinea,  Kenya,  Namibia,  Cameroon,  Kiribati  and  Slovakia.  
If  you  are  aware  of  colleagues  who  are  unable  to  attend  the  ISfTE  Seminar  but  are  
interested  in  having  their  papers  reviewed,  refer  them  to  Warren  Halloway  
(Australia)  whallowa@une.edu.au  as  soon  as  possible.

More  information  about  these  two  programs  will  be  presented  at  the  Brazil  Seminar.  
Also,  at  the  seminar,  consideration  of  sites  for  2013  will  occur.  Proposals  should  be  
prepared  beforehand.  Contact  Secretary-­‐General  Forrest  Crawford  
(fcrawford@weber.edu)  of  your  interest  so  that  your  proposal  will  be  considered  at  
the  2010  Seminar  in  Brazil.
