Sen. Barack Obama spoke at a rally in Grant Park in Chicago. On Obamas speech he
uses repetition, parallel structure, and allusions to inspire the people to pick him as his
president. He promises a lot of change and he states yes we can this shows that as a nation
they can overcome anything that decides to face the United States of America, whether it's a
terrorist attack or the economy goes down, as a nation they will not fall.
In paragraph 9-11 he uses repetition, he states yes we can at the end of every stanza.
This supports his argument because it inspires the people, he gives them hope, someone they
could have confidence in.He doesn't state that he will change everything and fix every problem
that comes upon the U.S. He strongly states that yes we can he states that we the people will
be a part of that change and we will fix any problem together.
In paragraph 7 he uses parallel structure when he says A time... when there were no
cars and women were not allowed to vote This affects his argument positively, because in the
1890s-1920 during the women's suffrage. Obama mentions this so people will believe in him
that he wants equal rights for everyone whether they are a man or a women.
Lastly, Obama uses historical allusions, for example the dust bowl, the new deal, and a
bridge in Selma. This affects his argument positively by showing the people he cares. He
understands what's morally right and acts upon how he views what's best for America. The dust
bowl was a big tragedy. Many farmers lost their soil because it got blown everywhere. The new
deal, Franklin D.Roosevelt helped with putting new jobs out there for the unemployment. He
states his slogan as reform recover relief. A bridge in Selma also know as the bloody bridge
was a massacre were lots of innocent died in the Selma bridge trying to move to montgomery.
