WATER POLLUTION

Water is the crucial natural resources in this world. But, its finiteness and
vulnerability make water really in high demands and become crisis. Water quality issues
are a major challenge that humanity is facing in the twenty-first century. Bad sanitation in home,
water waste from the detergent or factories, nutrients, oil pollution, plastics, allien
species, radioactive waste, termal pollution and sediment, chemical waste such as
PCB, heavy metal (lead, mercury, cadmium), TBT are only a few examples the cause
of water quality issues in the daily life.
The decreasing quality of water is shown by some existing condition.
Approximately, 70 % of industrial wastes are dumped untreated into waters,
polluting the usable water supply. Every day 2 million tons (1.8 billion kilograms) of
human waste are disposed of in waterways around the world. In many Asian cities,
groundwater is contaminated by both natural sources (example: arsenic, fluoride)
and human activities. Consequently, consumption of polluted water puts lives and
livelihoods at risk because water has no substitute, posing serious health risks to
millions of people.
Many things that humans can do to prevent the polluted water and help keep our
waters clean. One simple way is throwing the litter in the dustbin. Many people are
usually throw away their litter in the river, lake, and in the oceans. Help clean up
any litter on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter
and put it in a nearby dustbin. Another example is using water wisely. Do not keep
the tap running when not in use. People living close to a water body could try to
plant lots of trees and flowers around their home, so that when it rains, chemicals
from home does not easily drain into the water. When we are using chemicals and
pesticides be mindful not to overuse them. This will reduce runoffs of the chemical
into nearby water sources. Start looking at options of composting and using organic
manure instead.
