Narrative

My name is April Bandell. I grew up in Melbourne, Florida and

came to Baltimore in 2005. I have always known I wanted to be a
teacher since I was a small child.
I graduated from Towson University, with a Bachelors of Science
in Elementary Education. In December of 2015, I will Graduate From
Towson University with a Masters of Education in Special Education. I
currently have a Professional Eligibility Certificate in Elementary
Education from the Maryland State Department of Education with an
endorsement in Special Education.
I have a little over three years experience teaching preschool
students. I also worked for Baltimore Countys Public Elementary
Schools as a long term Special Education Substitute, during the 2014
and 2015 school year. My full time internship was at Carney Elementary
School in Baltimore County. At Carney, I taught in a first and second
grade Communication and Learning Support Classroom (CALS). I have
a little over five years experience working with a variety of student with
disabilities.
Being a Special Education teacher is very close to my heart
because I received special education services when I was a child due to
hearing loss and a processing problem. I can relate to my students in
ways other educators cant and I know what is like to work hard to over
come challenges and succeed to my fullest potential.
My short term goal is to obtain a job as a Special Education
teacher, primarily working with students who are on the Autism
Spectrum. My ability to be very patient, understanding, and organized
are great qualities to have when working with students on the Autism
Spectrum. My long term goal is to keep furthering my education while
gaining teaching experience. I also hope to one day get a doctorate and
teach at a University.
