Please add specific comments about the student teachers observed strengths during this teaching
practicum and identify areas in which you feel further development is necessary.
Observed Strengths:

Great way to conduct a discussion by allowing the

students to observe the ecosystem and analyze the flow
the ecosystem.
Students were given 5 minutes to complete a compare
and constrast activity.

Areas in which further development is needed:

*Increase the rigor of the class by providing more challenging work.
Review lesson plan; 5Es
The explore portion of your lesson plan must provide students
with an opportunity to explore in their own through group work
while the teacher acts as a facilitator.
*We must transitioned from a teacher centered classroom where
all eyes are on the teachers to a student centered classroom
students are taking charge of their own learning.
Above was some some of the areas in need of development. For
this lesson, students could have easily create their own ecosystem
while explaining the interactions of the organisms within that
ecosystem. Most importantly, the explore has to be an investigation
or an activity.
Review science concepts before lesson. For example, students
must avoid the misconception that decomposers only break down
dead animals. They break down all dead matter.

General Comments: Lesson started with the teacher posting an ecosystems image on the projector. Students were asked to
discuss the interactions of the organisms in the ecosystem. Key words were introduced such as producers, consumers, and
decomposers. Students were engaged in very good discussions. From the engagement, students transitioned to their iPad to
read a section on ecosystem. Students were given 10 minutes to read the passage followed by more discussion from the teacher
The lesson was centered around the teacher till 9:20 during which students were given a compare and contrast worksheet to
complete.
