(October 7, 2015)---The Downtown Jacksonville Art Walk will be blended with Oktoberfest festivities for an evening of music, food, beer and art. We couldnt have timed this event better if we tried, said Art Walk manager Hana Ashchi. When Art Walk celebrates the artistry of painters, poets and craftsmen, visitors will get to sample the talents of skilled cooks and brewers, too. What better combination than good food, good art and good drink? Highlights of Oktoberfest will include a sausage-eating contest sponsored by Hoptingers Bier & Sausage House, hot dog costume races, and more than a dozen live performers, including musicians and dancers. Dan Wituki and Mein Heimatland Musikanten Band will be the featured band. Several pubs will offer seasonal beer in the spirit of Oktoberfest. Hourglass Pub will feature more than half a dozen brews, all $4. Burro Bar will offer seasonal beers and $3 drafts from 4p.m.-7p.m. University of North Florida students will have their art in the spotlight at Art Walk. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) will feature a UNF student artist exhibit called Tech Support. More UNF student artcan be found at the Southlight Gallery on Hogan Street. Transportation will be provided by the Jacksonville Skyway, which will offer free rides from multiple stops to the heart of Downtown Jacksonville until 9:30 p.m.Free shuttle rides will also be provided from the University of North Florida to Art Walk. Art Walk and Oktoberfest will begin when Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry taps the traditional keg. Im excited about what this event means for Jacksonville, Curry said. It brings thousands of visitors into Downtown where they can see the artistry and diversity of our city. Curry also added Oktoberfest showcases the artistry of cooks, musicians and other artists in a way that people just dont expect.
