What is Advent?
The word Advent is
derived from the Latin
word adventus, meaning
coming. Scholars believe that during the 4th
and 5th centuries in
Spain and Gaul, Advent
was a season of preparation for the baptism of
new Christians at the
January feast of Epiphany. During this season of

Rev. April Wegehaupt

preparation, Christians
would spend 40 days in
penance, prayer, and
fasting to prepare for
this celebration.
I would like to encourage all of you to do
something different this
Advent that will help you
grow deeper with Christ.
Some ideas are: read
the birth story of Jesus
daily and mediate on it,
strive to help someone

daily who is in need,

pray daily, start a new
family tradition of reading and praying every
night. This list can go on
and on, but the main
focus is for you to do
something that will help
you prepare for the
true meaning of Christmas.
Blessings,
Rev. April

Introducing our New Young Ministries

DirectorDemian Wegehaupt

MAKING DISCIPLES...CHANGING THE WORLD

Hello, my name is Demian Wegehaupt, and I have been given

the opportunity to be the new young ministries director. Im very
excited to come on board and begin a new chapter in delivering
Gods message to our children and youth. I have more than five
years of youth group leadership experience, and have also lead
many youth mission trips. I have served nine years in the US
Marine Corps and hope those leadership skills will guide me in
how I can minister to our young people.
Im in a unique position to bring the word of God to our kids.
My hope is that they will have fun with how I can bring Gods
message to them. I hope to bring a few more programs to the
children as we figure out what has been working and what needs
some tweaking. Keeping the kids and their parents involved is
very important, and I hope that I will be able to bring some more
parent involvement into the mix as well. Thank you again for this
opportunity to serve.

Childrens Christmas Pageant

Sunday, December 20th
@ 10:00am
The Pageant will be presented during a
Combined Worship service followed by a
luncheon in Fellowship Hall
PRACTICES ARE BEING HELD WEDNESDAYS AT 5:30PM

Christmas Hands of Help and Hope

FUMC has been asked to join the Christmas Hands of Help
and Hope program that was established in 2005 to coordinate
community efforts to provide a more equitable distribution of
Christmas gifts to children with less duplication. The program
now partners with Emprise Bank, Cherry Street, Toys for
Tots, and the Chanute Fire Department.
The Missions Team will have 30 Angel gift tags available
for adoption soon. One Angel gift tag equals one gift
ranging in price from $20$20-$30. Each child will receive
3 gifts - 2 gifts of clothing and 1 gift of a toy or game.
Anyone interested in adopting an angel, please
contact Deanne Schoenberger. A table with angel tags will
be set up in the parlor between worship services beginning
November 29. Wrapped gifts will need to be returned to the
church ASAP.

Monetary donations will also be accepted.

As you hold these

and turn them,
you will see
The M becomes a W
an E, and then a 3
They tell the Christmas
storyIm sure its one
you know
...it took place in a stable
a long, long time ago
The E is for the East,
where the star shone
so bright
The M is for the Manger,
where the Baby Jesus
slept at night
The 3 is for the
Wisemen, bearing gifts,
with which they came.
W is for worship,
Hallelujah!
Praise His Name!
So as you eat these

with a friend,
Remember the meaning
of Christmas:

CHRISTMAS GIFT TO THE

COMMUNITY ENTITLED

Its a
Wonderful Life
A Radio Play
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6
3:00PM
SANDERS AUDITORIUM
NCCC, CHANUTE
The Public is Invited

It was coming up to
Christmas and Sammy
asked his mum if he could
have a new bike. So, she
told him that the best idea
would be to write to Santa
Claus. But Sam, having
just played a vital role in
the school nativity play,
said he would prefer to
write to the baby Jesus.
So his mum told him that
would be fine.
Sam went to his room
and wrote ' Dear Jesus, I
have been a very good boy
and would like to have a
bike for Christmas.' But he
wasn't very happy when he
read it over. So he decided
to try again and this time
he wrote 'Dear Jesus, I'm a
good boy most of the time
and would like a bike for
Christmas.' He read it
back and wasn't happy
with that one either. He
tried a third version. 'Dear
Jesus, I could be a good
boy if I tried hard and
especially if I had a new
bike.' He read that one
too, but he still wasn't
satisfied.
So, he decided to go out
for a walk while he
thought about a better
approach. After a short
time he passed a house
with a small statue of the
Virgin Mary in the front
garden. He crept in,
stuffed the statue under
his coat, hurried home
and hid it under the bed.
Then he wrote this letter.
'Dear Jesus, If you want to
see your mother again,
you'd better send me a
new bike.'

How to become a member....

You are welcome to attend worship services, member or not. For

church. Our vows ask us to faithfully participate in the life of the
church with our prayers, our
presence, our gifts, our service
and our witness.
We hope you will be a part of
the ministry of the First United
Methodist Church. If you would
like to become a member, please
give us: Name(s), address, phone
number, e-mail address, anniversaries, birthdays and if you are
already a member of some other
church or not. If you are, we also
need the name of the church and,
if possible, the address. Please
give this to the pastor, or leave in
the church office.
