Deafheaven- New Bermuda

Grade: A

If youve been counting down the days until October 2nd, then youre most likely a
Deafheaven fan. The experimental black metal band released their third studio album, New
Bermuda, last week. Although its short, this band has created one hell of an album.
It opens up with a personal favorite of mine, Brought to the Water. The track has an
eerie start that incorporates church bells before the crazy psychedelic/progressive rock guitar and
drums come smashing in.
Baby Blue, is the third track of the album and is like the calm before the storm. The
first three minutes of the song is soft and instrumental, unexpected really. Then shit gets real at
about 3:34 of the song when George Clarke comes in with some brutal vocals to wake you up.
The amazing shoegazing sound and guitar riffs that goes into this album is incredible.
The album has only five songs and is 46 minutes long from beginning to end. Deafheaven brings
all the brutality and darkness of their past albums but has intensified it completely. This band
gives it their all and has been my latest musical obsession since I heard the first single.
Black metal/experimental prog rock is an acquired taste and ever sense hearing The
Pecan Tree, off of their last album Sunbather Im in love with this band and album. I think itll
be tough for any black metal lover to find a better album after they give this one a listen.

The World Is A Beautiful Place and Im No Longer Afraid to Die- Harmlessness

Grade: A
The World Is A Beautiful Place and Im No Longer Afraid to Die. Crazy ass band name
with an awesome album.
Harmlessness is the bands sophomore studio album and honestly I cant stop listening to
it. Its one of those albums you can just let play from beginning to end and be okay with it.
Although the band has gone through some changes, like members leaving and David Bello kind
of adding a more stable tone to his voice, it works. Unlike their 2013 album, Whenever, If Ever,
the vocals sound much different and you can tell that the band went for a turn in the right
direction.
Despite some changes and some maturity of vocals, this album still feels like good ol
TWIABP. They still maintain that 2009 emo rock edge that made me fall in love with them in the
first place.
Their track Ra Patera Dance, really gives off a sound that reminds me of their older
stuff. That subtle use of electronica in this track as well as Mental Health, keeps things
interesting and its almost like their trademark technique now.
As you listen on to the album, it gets even better. We Need More Skulls, brings the
album to the darker side with more emotional vocals and harsh use of electric guitar. Creepy
echoes and weird instrumentation gives me the chills, not to mention the lyrics are a little strange
as well. TWIABP did not disappoint with this album. Theyve matured, incorporated new things
yet still stayed true to the sound they love and are known for.

The Buzzworthy
Band on the Rise: Made Violent
I first saw Made Violent when they opened for Matt & Kim at Canalside and instantly fell
in love with their sound. Plus the fact that Joseph White crowd surfed and cracked open a PBR
on stage made this band a new favorite for me. They got the crowd pumped up for the rest of the
night and were the perfect way to open a show.
Made Violent is an American rock band from our very own Buffalo, N.Y. that credits The
Rolling Stones, Nirvana and anything guitar related, as their musical influences.
Our music is influenced by everyday things and we pull from the past events for songs,
said White, Rob Romano and Justin Acee. Sometimes we could just be telling a good story or
theme weve thought up.
The Buffalo boys even find inspiration in their hometown.
Buffalo is a blue collar city and you can always notice that the best music comes from
these kind of places, said the group. Theres just a certain quality of life that always permeates
the music. At the same time that you want your music to escape, you always love to come back
to it.
However, the band has been far from Buffalo for the past couple of months. They
recently finished up an international tour with Wolf Alice and Drenge This Fall. They are back to
the states for their U.S. tour which will be starting this month.
We cannot reiterate how blessed we are to be on this tour, they said. The greatest crew
of people you could ever come across and the shows have been absolutely massive.
This is such a talented group that have worked their asses of to get where they are today.
They recently signed with Startime International, which is an imprint of Columbia Records in
New York City and they have a lot planned for the coming months.
Were doing our first full length record once we finish this tour and we are so damn
excited, the band said. Its going to be massive.
