Components of Lesson Plan

State Standard/District Curriculum:

S4.C2.PO3: Explain how genotypic variation occurs and results in phenotypic diversity.
Objective:
SWBAT create a Punnett Square and predict the probability of phenotypic and genotypic
ratios the offspring by having a timed quiz of five minutes.
Set:
The students will have homework the night before that will demonstrate their personal
family history. This family history worksheet will assist their understanding by listing the
common characteristic they have from their parents. From determining these common
characteristics students will be intrigued to learn genetics due to homework from the
night before.
Information:
T will use a PowerPoint demonstration to teach
Genetics: Genotype Phenotype
Gregor Mendel
Probability/Statistical Ratios
Punnett Squares
Model:
There will be a PowerPoint Lecture including an introduction video of Genetics, during
which leads into a guided worksheet.
Check for Understanding:
Teacher will be asking extra credit questions for understanding during lecture. Students
will answer to receive an extra credit.
Guided Practice:
A guided worksheet allows students to check their understanding and ask for help when
needed. Students will complete worksheet and ask for help when needed.
Closure:
Teacher will give students a quick review to remind them major subject points.
Independent Practice:
Students will take a timed quiz within five minutes to determine their understanding of
subject material.
QUIZ ON probability ratios, genotypes-phenotypes and Punnett Squares.
