Historical Site Visit:
Los Angeles Maritime Museum
The historical site visit that I went in San Pedro was the Los Angeles Maritime
Museum. The museum is located at 84 Berth, San Pedro, CA 90731. It is a really nice
and interesting museum because there are different exhibits where one can get a variety
of information about how the port of San Pedro was establish, but as well about the
industry of fishing and canning. The exhibits that really got my attention was the USS
Iowa BB-61, the San Pedro's Fishing and Canning Industries, the Ramp and the history
of the Port of Los Angeles and San Pedro.
In the USS Iowa BB-61 exhibit, I was able to learn that the ship was known as
the "battleship and that it was used during the different battles during war to keep
America safe. In the exhibit, I was able to learn about how many men lived and worked
in the ship as well. In the San Pedro's Fishing and Canning Industries, I learned about
the different jobs many men and women had in the two industries in San Pedro. Many
men and women worked by cleaning and packing the fish. In the exhibit, I was able to
see also the uniform women such as Dominica used while she cleaned the fish. It was
really amazing to see the uniform Dominica used during the 1920s. In the Ramp exhibit,
I was able to see the different ships that were created, such as the Catalina ship and the
Avalon ship. The Queen Mary ship was amazing to see up close even though it was
small. It was really nice because I was able to see the different details the ship had. The
history of the Port of Los Angeles and San Pedro exhibit, was really interesting because
I was able to learn how the port was created and the different immigrants who were
involved in the creation of the port as well. By going to the Los Angeles Maritime
Museum, I was able to learn a little bit more about the history behind the port of San
Pedro.
