Unit 2 Discussion Forum EDTK2030

The two ICT tools that I currently use in the classroom are dvd player and the computer. These
tools will greatly assist with the learning and teaching process.
The use of these tools will support the constructivist theory. The effectiveness of these tools will
provide the skills necessary for the children to become equipped and knowledgeable of the use of
modern technology. Teaching will no longer be chalk and talk but a new approach in delivering
concepts that will stimulate the children and a shift towards student-centred approach. Children
are now excited and eager to become involved with modern technology which has allowed them
to interact with their peers as they learn.
The constructivist theories approach has given the children the chance to become fully involved
and interactive with learning through the use of ICT tools thus providing them with the
opportunity to develop holistically.

There are two ICT tools that I use presently in the classroom to enhance the teaching and
learning process which is the computer and the dvd player.
These tools support the major dimensions of constructivist theories in that these theories move
away from the traditional knowledge transmission approaches, towards a student-centred
approach that emphasise active construction of knowledge in a social setting, for example in
times gone by children would traditionally learn by viewing a black board or a chart to learn
about numbers and shapes but now they can be actively involved when they can click a mouse
and learn about colours and letters in a more engaging way and also when they listen to the dvd
player they can dance and interact with their peers socially as they learn.
I teach a classroom with the population of 17 students and I can say that from my own
experience that the constructivist theories approach makes learning more interesting, exciting
and fun.
