academic performance of each student and taking a proactive approach to insure that parents will be full partners with
educators in the education of their students.
DCHS Goals
Denver City High School will take a proactive approach to ensure that parents will be full partners with educators in the
education of their children.
Denver City High School will provide an appropriate instructional environment to ensure that all students who take the
Math, Reading, Writing, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies STAAR tests meet the increased state
accountability standards.
We will use a range of communication tools on a regular basis, seeking to facilitate two-way interaction through each
type of medium.
Denver City High School will address issues that enhance school climate thereby creating a strong, positive, and safe
learning environment for all students and staff.

Communication Plan
DCHS will encourage parent involvement through the following organizations: athletics, band, cheerleading, FFA,
FCCLA, VICA, UIL academics, art club, Spanish club, FCA, Student Council and National Honor Society. Include
parents on all decision-making and advisory committees, and ensure adequate training for such areas as policy,
curriculum, budget, school reform initiatives, safety, and personnel. Where site based governing bodies exist, give equal
representation to parents. This includes any site-based committees both district and school-wide.
Every year, DCHS will also communicate with parents, students and stakeholders through Open House, Meet the
Mustangs, JAM (Just Ask Me) Session, Fall Festival, Career Day, School Board Meetings, Class Meetings, PTSA
Meetings.
Use different means of communication to inform parents and stakeholders of events and performance of the school.
This includes: The Stampede monthly newsletter, Twitter, Facebook, Denver City Press Articles, Website Updates,
Survey Monkey and SchoolReach. Stakeholders include parents, taxpayers, churches and religious affiliates,
legislators, school alumni, families without children in school, and businesses.
Beginning in April of the previous year, provide clear information regarding course expectations and offerings, student
placement, school activities, student services, and optional programs.
Mail report cards every six weeks and regular progress reports every three weeks to parents. Provide support services
and follow-up conferences as needed. Supply information to assist parents in understanding how students can improve
skills, get help when needed, meet class expectations, and perform well on assessments.
In August, circulate information on school reforms, policies, discipline procedures, assessment tools, and school goals,
and include parents in any related decision-making process.
Every week, Administrators from all Denver City ISD campuses will meet to discuss goals and make decisions to
implement new strategies for the district. They will report on the happenings in their individual campuses.
Every month, administrators from each campus will attend the monthly School Board Meeting to represent their campus
interest and report for their campus to the board.
Every year, DCHS will provide staff development regarding effective communication techniques and the importance of
regular two-way communication between the school and the family.
Conduct conferences with parents at least twice a year, with follow-up as needed. These should accommodate the
varied schedules of parents, language barriers, and the need for child care. Encourage immediate contact between
parents and teachers when concerns arise.
Translate communications to assist non-English-speaking parents.
Communicate with parents regarding positive student behavior and achievement, not just regarding misbehavior or
failure this will include positive contacts from teachers and principal letters sent every six weeks.
4 of 27
Involve parents in setting student goals each year and in planning for post-secondary education and careers. Encourage
the development of a personalized education plan for each student, where parents are full partners.
Weekly Friday Focus memo for teachers with announcements and upcoming events as well as goals and expectations
for the upcoming week.
Encourage the formation of PTSAs or other parent groups to identify and respond to issues of interest to parents by
electing teachers to represent the staff by attending Monthly PTSA meetings.
After each grading period. Students with no discipline will receive coupons that will result in dropping a daily grade of
their choice.
Students with perfect attendance will receive cash awards at the end of the school year. After each grading period.
Students with perfect attendance will receive coupons that will result in dropping a daily grade of their choice.
Every year, DCHS will offer classes that will be taught through South Plains College and University of Texas Permian
Basin. Many of these classes will qualify as dual-credit courses.
Every year, students will participate in programs which focus on transition from high school to college. This will include
Career Day, ACT Storm in Andrews, Life After High School Week led by Junior and Senior Social Studies Department,
ACT/SAT prep, etc.
Incoming Freshmen will attend JAM (Just Ask Me) session on first days of school to receive pertinent information
concerning campus logistics, the discipline plan, and overall expectations of high school. Conduct class meetings to
discuss high school expectations for behavior and logistical safety concerns throughout the year.
Coordinate with Lambs Closet which is a charity that provides new clothes, toiletries, lice kits, etc to students that
teacher recommend based on what they have observed. We will do surveys for teachers every month for Lamb Closet
to assess needs.
Monthly Stampede is a monthly newsletter that is sent to stakeholders informing them of upcoming events,
performance, progress, and achievements. It will include articles and photographs of events.
