Research

Progressivists believe that education should focus on the whole

child and not just the content or the teacher. This philosophy
stresses that students should test ideas by active
experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners
that arise through experimenting the world. They also believe
people learn best from what they consider most relevant to
their lives, they center their curriculum on the needs,
experiences, interests and abilities of students. Progressivist
teachers try making class interesting and useful by planning
lessons that make the students curious. The students interact
with one another and develop social qualities such as
cooperation and tolerance for different points of view. Students
would solve problems in the classroom similar to the ones they
would encounter in their everyday lives. Progressivists believe
education should be a process of on going growth.

Summary
I learned that I am a progressivist! I care about the students and
believe that education should be interactive. The qualities of a
progressivists that I wrote about in the last slide sound exactly like
a teacher I would do best with. My strongest philosophy is obviously
progressivism and my weakest is behaviorism, which I am not
surprised about. Behaviorists are very strict and orderly. I believe
my personal philosophy will help learning because it will keep
students interested in the lesson plans. I think my experience just
babysitting children helped shape my current philosophy. I dont
have children myself but I babysat my boyfriends cousins for awhile
5 days a week so I think I taught them a few things. My future
students I believe will enjoy my class very much, or I hope they do.
I want my students to want to come to my class and not dread it
week to week. Personally, I think any of the philosophies align with
the direction of Clark Country. Everyone is different and is going to
teach different ways.
