Grade Level: 5th grade
Technology Content Standard Addressed: Critical thinking problem solving
and decision making. Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct
research, manage projects, solve problems and make informed decisions
using appropriate digital tools and resources. 4. B.5.1 Plan and manage
projects using a digital planning tool.
Other Content Standard Addressed: 5-LS1-1. Support an argument that
plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.
(Predictions on the growth of the plant)
5-LS2-1. Develop a model to describe the animals, decomposers and the
environment. (The bean seed model)
Objective: Students will learn how to graph on excel. Students will use
complete sentences and proper grammar making predictions and
observations on their plants.
Materials needed: seeds for each student, one planting pot for each student,
potting soil, water, ruler, and light.
Procedures:

Dump soil in each pot.


Put two seeds in each pot.
Make sure all pots are under some sort of light.
Make sure to write your name on your pot.
Water plants as needed
Make predictions about what you think your plant will do.
After 1 week the seeds will start to germinate, measure the stem once
a week.
8. Record all data on an excel spreadsheet.
9. Continue for about 6 weeks.

Make a graph in the excel spreadsheet.

Write down your observations and compare them to what your
predictions were.

Assessment: I will grade on proper grammar and the use of complete


sentences. I will grade on the usage of the excel spreadsheet.
