Things:
1. Electoral College: the group of people who actually elect the President and Vice
President of the United States.
2. President of the United States: the head of state and head of government of the United
States. This person is the leader of the Executive Branch and leader of the military.
3. Vice President of the United States: the person who becomes President if the President
dies or leaves office. They are also the leader of the Senate.
4. Precedent: action taken by one person that people follow as an example.
5. Cabinet: a group of people who advise the President and lead different Executive
Departments.
6. Presidential Term: the number of years a person is the President of the United States.
7. Executive Department: part of the Executive Branch of the United States. Each
department does a different job, as is lead by a person called the Secretary.
8. Judiciary: this means the branch of government that interprets the laws. It is made of
the Supreme Court and other lower courts.

People:
1. George Washington: first President of the United States. He set many precedents that
shaped how future Presidents would act.
2. John Adams: first Vice President of the United States.

Places:
1. Washington, D.C.: swampy land that was set aside as the capital of the United States.

The land to make the capital was taken from the states of Virginia and Maryland.
