Topic Proposal Paragraph
Many times in our lives different people we encounter promise us wonders of eternal
bliss by joining different groups, such as the sunshine children, or the new followers of the all
Seeing Eye. If we simply pledge our undying loyalties to their holy figureheads and throw in as
much money as we can to the cause, we too can live an eternal life. Of course, even though many
would instantly see the word CULT written all over these organizations many others do not.
The Man Who Saves You from Yourself: Going Undercover With A Cult Infiltrator follows David
Sullivan who is sent by clients to investigate, infiltrate, as well as stop the cults that bring more
harm then they say that they do. The article not only tells of his exploits with his infiltrations of
several cults but also manages to give us ideas of how Cults themselves work as he brings to
light the differing criteria that cults look for in new members, as well as how they go about
converting or making believers in their cause.
This article really got my attention because I have always been fascinated by the
ideologies of different cults and religious sects. I often wonder how people can be so gullible to
believe in the recycling of the planet earth, so we must leave our planet by our alien brothers
who will take our souls to another plane of existence or how people can be convinced to escape
the tragedy of the world by drinking the Kool-Aid as it were. I believe that cults are not only

impractical and controversial but they also can bring pain and loss to relatives and family
members of their converts. I think that people should formulate their own beliefs, rather than
follow a controversial group. I believe that people should acknowledge that researching and
formulating your own beliefs and opinions are more important than following a crowd.
