SPACE ON DELAWARE AVENUE New cafe pays homage to Albanys historic trolley system ALBANY, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2015) Delaware Trolley House and Cafe (DTH&C), a new espresso bar and cafe located adjacent to the Spectrum Theater at 292 Delaware Avenue in Albany, opened its doors two weeks ago with plans to hold a formal grand opening with elected officials and community leaders on Dec. 22 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cafe will serve signature coffee drinks, bagels made daily by Rockland Bakery, baked goods from fellow Delaware Avenue business Bake For You, in addition to salads, sandwiches, and more. The name was inspired by the system of trolley lines that used to run along many streets in Albany, including Delaware Avenue. Due to the rise of the automobile, many of the trolley rails were ripped up and discarded. Recently, the Delaware Avenue branch of the Albany Public Library unveiled a monument to the Delaware Avenue trolley. The location has previously been home to the Ultraviolet Cafe and Tierra Coffee Roasters. DTH&C is owned and operated by Anton Pasquill and Joe Bonilla. Pasquill is the owner of the Hudson River Coffee House (HRCH) and Bonilla is managing partner for public relations and advertising agency Relentless Awareness. Having owned and operated Hudson River Coffee House for five years, I was excited to take on a new opportunity and challenge. For myself, the challenges of connecting with a market, with customers both individually and as a base, are more exciting than turning a profit, even while they go hand in hand. While we have transformed this space into something new and exciting, I am looking forward to seeing how the space and business evolve alongside the neighborhood, said Pasquill. For many years, it has been my dream to own or operate a coffee shop. Chances have come and gone in past years, so when this location on Delaware Avenue became available I knew I had to take the opportunity. The concept Anton and I have created will be a welcome addition to the excitement happening in Albanys historic Delaware Avenue neighborhood, said Bonilla. Pasquill opened the Hudson River Coffee House in 2010, with the venerable coffee shop celebrating its five-year mark the same day DTH&C opened. In the five years since opening, Hudson River Coffee House has become a staple of midtown Albany and has one of the longest-continuously running open mic series in the region. DTH&Cs hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. For more information about Delaware Trolley House and Cafe, visit delawaretrolleyhouse.com. ###
