The University of North Texas Distinguished Lecture Series was created in

2007 with the primary

objective of providing the university and Denton community with a variety of
distinguished lectures and speakers in an effort to bring interest visibility, and
added prestige to the university.

Executive Summary

The UNT Distinguished Lecture Series is managed by six students who are
selected by the UNT Student Government Association, three faculty representatives chosen by the Faculty Senate, three staff representatives appointed
by the UNT Staff Council and one permanent ex official faculty and/or staff
member is designated by the Student Affairs Vice President to serve as an
administrative assistant to the committee.
Students are given the opportunity to vote for the category that they would
most like to hear a lecture on. These categories include range of topics from
the arts (film, TV, music, dance, etc.), social issues, technology, business, science, and more. The committee then uses this information to select speakers
within these categories whom reflect a wide public reflection and appeal. In
past years, the Series has brought popular public figures like Robert F. Kennedy, singer John Legend, Bill Nye, Condoleezza Rice, Steve Wozniak and
George W. Bush.
Our proposal is intended to increase the amount of student participation for
all of the speaking events. By the end of our campaign we hope to gain at least
one permeant sponsor for the Distinguished Lecture Series in order to increase funding and to bring more and higher profiles speakers to campus.
Our vision is to create an exciting and fun brand image of the Distinguished
Lecture Series so students will be more willing to participate in speaking
events. Our strategies and tactics will focus heavily on increasing student involvement in all areas of the series.
The students, especially incoming freshman, are the target audience. Getting
students involved with the Series especially when they first arrive will help us
increase student participation.
