In the piece we read from Mann, she talked about how there was no set definition for
feminism. She said that you could use the grab-bag approach to addressing feminism.
However, in contrast, not connection, Manifest differs. They are in a way connected to each other
because they both bring up the subject of what does feminism mean? In Manifest, Baumgarder
and Richards say that feminist is exactly what the dictionary says it is, in a basic sense.
In the text it says that ...the core identity of feminism has to be so elastic. I believe that
by saying this they meant that the whole idea of feminism is changing because women are
having their own person experience which makes each one of their outlooks different. I may
have been in an abusive relationship, while my friend just wants to be accepted because of her
sexuality. We can both be feminist but have different reasons. Personally, I came to feminism
because the subject is so powerful to me. No, Ive never been abused and Im not part of the
LGBT community but that doesnt mean I cant stand for feminism. We all have our own way of
looking at it but I am just a supporter of the movement.
The authors tell us that if someone makes an assumption based off of stereotypes we
should respond with Who are you referring to? We need not to be delayed by these
distractions. Most people have ignorant beliefs about feminists but only because they are blind to
what it really is.
The lack of consciousness is what I think would be a lack of knowledge. It refers to the
mothers that finally realized that it was unfair to have to do all the housework, or get an abortion
by coat hanger. I feel like this means the women didnt know there could be a better life for
them. Pre-consciousness would be the younger women that were born into this way of life. It
was pre-set for them to know. I feel like this generation is certainly pre-conscious because the
way a women is supposed to be is already determined for us.
