producesdirectcurrentandneedsacommutertodoso.Whileanalternatorcreatesanalternating
current.Adynamogeneratorusesstationaryorpermanentmagnetsandrotatesconductivewire

throughthemagneticfields.Thisproducedanalternatingcurrentwhichwasntascommonly
usedasitistoday.Byusingacommuterthegeneratorisabletoproducedirectcurrent.A
commuterisarotatingpartthatreversesthepolarityofthecharge.Themainreasonthat
dynamosarenotusedtodayistheuniversaluseofalternatingcurrentandwhenpowerdemands
increasedthesizeofcommuterneededforadynamowouldbetoolargetofunction.An
alternator
generatorcreateselectricitybyhavingactiveconductorspasssuccessivelythroughregions
wherethemagneticfieldisinopposingdirections.Soverymuchlikethedynamobutdoesnt
requireacommuter.Theycanbeplacedinaserieswithotheralternatorstocreatemorepower.
