Dear Robert,

I love DECA. Im very passionate about the club and fully believed it created a
certain part of me. I was able to have long lasting friendships and be able to social
network myself among others, in the south-eastern region of North Carolina, North
Carolina as a whole, and the Nation. I choose DECA because it was not natural for
me including the roleplays, and tests. Much dedication and persistence went into
preparing for everything I wanted to become.
During the process of this Literacy Narrative some preparation and invention work
went in to preparing my actual writing process. I first did the freewriting which
allowed me to figure out the path I wanted to take my paper in. Also the looping
allowed me to create another paragraph in my narrative, I was able to fully think of
each part that DECA contains. I also texted my best friend Sylvia to help me think of
other aspects that I forgot about, sort of like a refresher.
To allow readers to fully understand the DECA lifestyle I had to use imagery, and in
some of my first drafts it was not apparent. I had to think about every essential part
that played in the opening paragraph. Asked myself how would readers understand
the excitement? Also, how would they understand the intensity inside the room
with the judges? That is when I decided to use dialogue for that scenario. Which
also became the most difficult, because in high school we never practiced
appropriate dialogue in a paper. So I hope it makes sense. I also started to like it
because its uncut, a writer doesnt have to think how to make it sound appropriate.
My favorite part in the literacy was writing about certain areas that needed imagery
only because it allows me to talk about every little thing.
Peer review helped me become more descriptive for the text. Other than that I
didnt find much help in peer review only because it was close to the end of class
and there was no elaboration.
It did not change me, other than stressing me out.
I like the final version of my paper, I think that it truly reflects my experiences, and
how I feel about DECA. I dont like the grammar even though I read over it multiple
times. I have poor grammar and I know that which is why Im not sure how to fix it.

Sincerely Taelen Wilson,
