URI Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to host Second Annual Dodgeball Tournament

Kingston, R.I. October 13, 2015 The University of Rhode Islands Student-Athlete Advisory
Committees (SAAC) annual dodgeball tournament will take place this spring at the Keaney gym
on March 1, 2016 on URIs Kingston campus. The student-led organization is hosting the event
to raise money for the universitys athletic department.
In addition to raising funds, this event will also promote SAAC, which seeks to provide a forum
for leadership, communication, event planning and community service for Rhode Island's
student-athletes.
Were so honored to represent the student-athletes here at URI, SAAC President Abby
Miklitsch said. This tournament will focus on creating a sense of community between everyone
involved. I feel that this experience will be mutually beneficial for the athletes, students and URI
community.

The tournament will consist of teams of six to eight athletes from all different fields of athletics,
both male and female. A tournament bracket will ultimately be determined after each team plays
a round of pool-play. Each team is required to pay $40 to participate, all of which will be donated

to the athletic department at the university. Other donations will be accepted throughout the
duration of the event.
In the past, SAAC has worked with other organizations such as Childrens Friend, South County
Hospital and Kimly May Fund. This event attracts students, athletes, faculty and any community
members that are involved with URI athletics.
