Dear Ms. Ozias,
I was very excited to see that the Writing Center had listed a job opening for student writing
consultants, as Ive been keeping my eye out for it. With my academic background in English
Writing and diverse coursework, I believe I can make a valuable addition to your consulting
team.
Over the course of my academic career, Ive had the opportunity to work with many students
from different backgrounds. Much of the English major consists of discussion and collaboration
with peers to perfect our ideas and communicate them with clarity and efficiency. While Ive
worked with many different groups, Ive also had the chance to lead groups as well. Ive worked
one on one with high school students from my alma mater, Pauls Valley High School, to help
them with college entrance essays. Ive led small groups in class to produce presentations. Ive
had the opportunity to be a rank leader for the trumpet section of the Pride of Oklahoma where I
personally oversaw a group of 15 fellow students while working with other rank leaders to
ensure excellent musical and visual standards through the section of 60 performers. Ive also
worked with large teams, producing student films with the OU Student Film Production Club.
Throughout these experiences, Ive learned to work with and to teach others to bring abstract
ideas into the real world in an engaging and rewarding way.
Ive also had the opportunity to build experience with writing in a variety of subjects in several
different styles. Im familiar with MLA, APA, Chicago, and AP styles. In addition to studying
literature, poetry, and creative writing within my major, Ive also been able to write on a variety
of different subjects including physical and social sciences, music, philosophy, art and film. Ive
always been curious about other fields of study and very much enjoy the chance to better
understand people and subjects Im unfamiliar with.
