San Bernardino County like many other counties has a very diverse population with whites
alone making 77.3%, while black or African American make up 9.5%, American Indian and
Alaskan native are 2.0%, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific islanders alone 0.05%, Two more
races 3.4%, Hispanic or Latino 51.7%, and white alone, not Hispanic or Latino make up 30.6%.
While race and ethnicity are believed to be intertwined with each other there is a difference
between the use of both terms when it comes to identifying someone in such group.
Race is merely a social construct, it is a way society categorizes a person and it achieves
this through pointing the importance of a persons physical characteristics or attributes that
compose a person such as their genetics. Ethnicity on the other hand describes the socially
accepted categories such as language, religion, cultural heritage, and national characteristic that
individuals identify with each other. While culture is perceived to be something that is passed
from generation to generation and can be perceived to be anything from values to beliefs
anything that can generalize who we are.
The gender demographics shows that males are less likely to be household head with a
7.3% which is nearly doubled to that of female which is 16.4%. This is also true when it comes
to the marital status men are more likely to be single than women with a disadvantage of 6.3%
But when it comes to separated ,widowed, or divorce they are less likely to then compared to a
women.
Household family (families) was the majority when it came to the household types in San
Bernardino County with a reported 459,664 of households making it 76.1%. The potential health
outcomes due to this is if the households include extended family there could be greater risk for
the people living within the household such as exposures to second smoke handing as well as
greater exposures to diseases. But there also could be the advantage of being exposed to better
eating habits. Another fact about household type was the householder living alone was at 19.2%
almost the same percent as nonfamily household at a 23.9%. Which leaves a greater chance for
bad eating habits due to the lack of family support to better eating or better orientation to do so.

C.San Bernardino County ranks average to the rest of the counties however when it comes to the
amount of physicians for 100,000 it was one of the few counties that had the lowest percent. As
well as when it came to the clinic visits per 100 population it only had 8.5, it was one of the most
surprising findings due to the fact that San Bernardino is a large county.
