Odden
This is an example of brain breaks that I use in my classroom. Often students enter my classroom from
the regular education setting needing a break. Doodling or drawing allows the students to lessen their
anxiety before going back. Heads up 7-up is a reward game or a game to lighten in the mood. It also gets
the kids up after sitting. Brain breaks allow me to help keep my students focused, on task and keep a
positive environment in my classroom.
Classroom Environment

Brain Break #1
Title: Doodle Time
Materials Needed: paper and markers
Approximate Time: 0-10 minutes
Grade Level: K-6
Instructions: Give students some blank paper and markers. Let them doodle and
talk for five minutes. It sounds simple, but students love to draw and doodle.
Purpose: To allow students to have a mental break.
Brain Break #2
Title: Heads up 7-up
Materials Needed: none
Approximate time: 0-20 minutes
Grade level: 1-5
Instructions: Another classic that is easy and exciting for students. Have seven
students come to the front of the room. The remainder of the class put their heads
down thumbs up. The students at the front of the room go and put the thumb down
of one student. Then the group of students who are chosen guess who push their
thumbs down. If they guessed correctly they switch places with the other student.
Then play again.
