Essential Question: Investigate the molecular pathway through which light energy is transferred to chemical energy and
dispersed throughout an ecosystem

Questions:

Notes:
Chloroplasts: found in plants, absorb light energy and convert it
Why cant humans
into ATP which is a form of chemical energy
be made with
Parts in a chloroplast:
chloroplasts?
Thylakoids: have photosynthetic pigmentss that capture
What if humans were
energy
made with chloroplasts?
Granum: A whole stack of thylakoids
Do plants wither
Stroma: a substance that surrounds the granum and
because they lack
thylakoids
one of the three
Two
Phases
of Photosynthesis:
parts?
1. Light dependent: must have light, happens in the thylakoids
Why do plants die if
2. Light independent (Calvin Cycle): doesnt need light,
they are over
happens in the stroma
watered?
How do plants
survive in cold and
dark places of the
world?

Four Factors that Affect the Rat of Photosynthesis:

1. Light: increases photosynthesis
2. Temperature: if to hot or too cold reaction will slow or stop
3. CO2 Concentration: needs to at least meet the minimum for
the process to happen
4. Water: increases the rate of the reaction

Summary: This week in biology we learned about photosynthesis more in depth than all the other years we have
talked about it. Autotrophs or plants, go through a process to make food called photosynthesis. In this process,
sunlight, water and carbon dioxide is absorbed to go through two phases called light dependent and light
independent. After both phases happen, oxygen and glucose are released for heterotrophs to absorb. This who
process is carried out in the thylakoids inside of the chloroplasts held in the leaves and stem of a plant.
