Disaster Sciences
The Wasatch Mountain
Range is caused by a
vertical fault. This
causes the mountains to
raise higher as the
valley moves downward.
A magnitude 6 earthquake
or greater on the fault
could cause a surface
rupture. Such ruptures
break up ground surface
and can cause damage
hundreds of feet from the
fault rupture.
